Has anyone else noticed this? I searched google archives and
recently posted to comp.databases.ms-access, but it's bugging
me again and I want to see if anyone else has experienced it.

Copy some text to the clipboard
Open Microsoft Access MDB file
Add a label and try to paste your text.

It's Gone !!!

Copy the text to clipboard again
Open any module
Press Ctl-V to insert text

It's Gone !!!

Opening access and/or opening the IDE dumps the copy buffer.
I've experienced it on multiple computers, desktops and laptops
with Access XP and Access 2003.

Has anyone else seen this behavior? Know what causes it? Any
idea how to stop it?

Thanks

I've noticed the same thing, and it's been annoying me, too. I'm using
mostly Access 2002 these days, on Win2K. I don't know if it always did
that, or if it's some update or other.

Dear Danny:

HA! Maybe I'm not as careless and/or stupid as I thought!! I've been doing a
lot of cutting and pasting between Access MDBs lately and I've frequently
found myself with an empty clipboard when I paste. I would then berate
myself for being careless and forgetting to have copied to the clipboard.
You've pointed out another possibility...

Thanks for helping restore a little of my self-esteem! ;)

Cheers!

I just caught the tail of this, just the above. I had the same problem the other day. XP Pro OS, but it was several different programs, and I was attempting to paste an image.
I used print screen, got it into the buffer, tried to dump to irfanview, failed many times. opened my text editor, also failed many times.

I can't even recall what program finally took the paste.

What was the cure with access ?

The thread is still new, and there is no answer. However, I found this comment
on the Windows XP group.

If Word came installed as part of Works Suite then the Microsoft Works
Suite Add-in for Word (COM Add-in) is known to clear the contents of the
Windows Clipboard when Word starts.

Could it be a Windows XP problem? Or could it be a Works problem?

I don't have Works installed ... at least not anymore ... but there is still a Works
folder at C:\Program Files\Microsoft Works

I'll keep searching Google for WindowsXP + Works + Copy + Paste + Empty

Well, I'm about ready to give up. Something, probably an Addin, is clearing
the copy buffer. One post suggested using a third party tool, so I've installed
Ditto http://ditto-cp.sourceforge.net/

I'm going to try this for a while, but it's not as convenient as Ctl+C and Ctl+V

Danny, are you by any chance using a free dependency-reporting add-in
produced by Questica? That's the only thing I added to my Access
installation recently, and it occurs to me that might be at fault.

This add-in is no longer listed on the Questica web site.

That was it. Questica Query Dependencies. Not an Addin, but a DLL
that is registered via an install routine. It loads and runs when the db
opens and must be messing with the clipboard.

Well, that's a good lesson for all you girls and boys. Be careful not
to download things unless you know what they are.
