Opening Second Instance of Access

N

Running MSA2K3.

I have this problem a lot. I have an MDB open and I run a query. It
uses up most of my CPU, but I'm still able to open and work in other
applications (IE, Lotus Notes, whatever). However, if I try to open
another MDB, it doesn't seem to open until the other MDB finishes
processing. If I enter debug mode in MDB #1, then MDB #2 opens right
up.

What I think is happening is when I open MDB #2, Windows/Access sees
there's another instance of Access running, so it uses the first
instance to load the MDB--instead of just starting another instant of
Access.

Has anyone experienced this problem/know how to change this behavior?
Thanks.

when you launch the additional copy of ms-access, are you
clicking on the shortcut to launch ms-access, or clicking
on a mdb (or shortcut to a mdb).

If you click on the same mdb, well, then it will appear
to freeze, and in fact you don't get a 2nd copy of
ms-access running....

However, if you click on a different shortcut, or
simply launch ms-access (via the start menu), then
you should get a 2nd copy.....

I would try launcing the 2nd copy of ms-access via the start menu
and load/run ms-access, and *then* open the mdb file of your choice...

I'm just double-clicking the "other" MDB file (I'm dealing with two
different MDBs--maybe I didn't explain that very well).

That's a good idea--although not ideal; I'll just open open and then
drag-in the second MDB file. Thanks for the response.

that is a known bug.. basically.. get this

all you need to do is

START, RUN, SENDTO

you make a new shortcut to MSACCESS.exe in this folder

and then if you ever want to open _ANY_ MDB while the computer thinks
that it is busy?? then you just go right-click SEND TO msaccess

really honestly-- I think that I'm the only one here with that
workaround..

thanks.. send payments to my paypal if this helps
