I believe I caught a virus. I've run Adaware, Norton, PC Doctor, and a few
others. However, I have one glaring problem. I can open My Documents, but not
the folders or files within. When I try, it says Access is Denied. I'd really
like to get past this so I can copy my files to cd and wipe the hard drive.

Hi soadslipknot,

See if the information in this MSKB article, "How to take ownership of a
file or folder in Windows XP", helps to resolve the Access is Denied
problem:

I keep reading about a Security Tab, but there is no security tab. When I
right click on the unaccessible folders, it says 0 files and 0 folders, so I
am assuming I have lost all my goodies. Guess I'll reformat and get a
firewall and spyware, etc. installed this time.

If you're using XP Home Edition, you have to boot into Safe Mode and log
into an Admin account to access the Security tab.......if using XP
Professional, you have to disable Simple File Sharing in order to access the
Security tab.
