I have a customers machine in at the moment running win2k pro sp3, and
it won't allow me to install any drivers. I have tried with driver
signing both on and off, and from safemode, to no avail. The error
message is:

An error occurred during the installation of the device.

Access is denied.

This occurs while logged on as an administrator, and as a user of the
administrator group.

Can anyone help me please?

Post some names of the drivers please

Are they being installed in the system (system32) directory?

Have you tried to go into Control Panel\Admin Tools\Local Policy
Settings\User Right Assignmentm& choosing the second policy down on the right
(ACT AS PART OF THE OPERATING SYSTEM)?

Remember to remove that setting after you have tried it because if you ever
got a virus/hacker on your computer, it/he/she could do anything, including
checking username/password pairs because the LogonUser function succeeds with
the act as part... set

The drivers are for my Trek 2Smart USB key and a netcomm USB LAN key.

If cars had advanced at the same rate as Micr0$oft technology, they'd be
flying by now.
But who wants a car that crashes 8 times a day?

No, that didn't help. It still says "Access is denied"

I may have a solution - the WINNT directory was set as Hidden and
System. Now that I've changed that, things are already working better...
