Hi

Last week I did the following on an AD 2000 SP4 environment:
I run adprep on one DC.
Moved all FSMO-roles from server1 to server2 and run dcpromo on server1 to
make it a member server.
Installed (fresch install af W2K3 SP1) on server1, make it a member, and run
dcpromo to make it a W2K3SP1 DC.
I moved all FSMO roles to server1 and it was OK.

Now I did my mistake...
I didn't run dcpromo to make server2 a memberserver instead I installed with
a fresh OS (W2K3SP1) on that machine.
I selected a new computername for server2 to be server2B and installed the
machine as a DC.
So now has my AD a DC that doesn't exist (server2)

I have looked for solutions to correct my mistake and with local help a
found KB216498.

Then i run ntdsutil as in KB216498 i get "Access is denied"
If i run ADSI Edit i also get "Access is denied"

I run all the above with the administrator account

Any tips?

Regards Mikael

At one point are you getting the access denied? If you are attempting to
attach to the missing DC during the "Connect to Server" it should give you
an access denied. Connect to a server (DC) that is up and running you can't
connect to a missing server. If this isn't where you are getting the
message then check in your event viewer for some possible help.

I'm connecting to a "living" DC (server1) and run Adsiedit, and browse to a
point there I shall delete server2 records and after push the delete button
I get the error.
