ACCESS Import Specification problem saving

ACCESS 2000 SP-3

I have an Import Specification for 32 fields of fixed-length text into an
existing table. I wish to modify it to include two more fields, but cannot
save (or even use) the modified Import Specification.

I have attempted many different combinations of commands to preserve the
modified specification but the additional fields keep disappearing before
saving and before importing.

The table has been modified appropriately to receive the added data, the
fields of correct lengths and names are in the Table Design.

Thanks

Hi, Larry.

Perhaps adding two more fields would exceed the limitations of the table or
the file. With these added fields, would any record exceed the maximum
record size (about 4,000 bytes or 2,000 characters)? Does the name of either
of these two fields exceed the maximum number of characters (64)? Is the
table close to or at the maximum table size (1 GB)? Is the database file
close to or at the maximum size (2 GB)?

If the table or the file are close to the maximum, then try compact/repair
to get rid of unused space, and then try modifying the import spec again.

HTH.

This table is nowhere near size or field count limits, however Joe Fallon
seems to have the fix. Open the system table which has the import
specifications and make the changes directly there. Can't be done directly,
but by going through a SELECT query this can be accomplished.

It seems I posted this question a couple of times (can't seem to find my
thread any more than once), so this thread should probably terminate here in
favor of the thread with Subject Line "Saving Changed Import Specification"
and "Editing an Import Specification"

Thanks, all. And thanks Microsoft for providing this forum.
