"Access denied" on the "Program Files" directory - Win XP Prof SP2

Hello,

After updating XP Professional with the SP2, I don't have full rights
any more on the "Program Files" directory and I get the "Access denied"
error message whenever I try to remove/rename a file; even worse,
certain applications don't work any more because they've lost the
rights to write on their own files.

Of course I log in with an administrator account, I've disabled the
"simplified sharing" setting and I'm listed as the owner of the
directories and files I've tried to change. And of course I get the
"Access denied" error when I try to modify the file or directory
permissions.

I've looked for an answer on the Internet, but I couldn't find it: is
there anybody who can help me ?

Thanks in advance

I had an administrator account which somehow was altered from Administrator
to a "debugger" account. It lost its privleges as an Administrative Account.
I received "Access Denied" errors just attempting to open a game, let alone
access anything else.

I've checked my account and it was both a debugger and an
administrator; I've removed the debugger to keep just the administrator
group, but it didn't work: I still can't work on my files ...

Thanks anyway

I am sorry this did not help you out. However, it is odd "debugger" was
listed as one of your accounts "group memberships" as Administrator is above
all other group memberships. So far two others I am aware of have had simular
problems. One fella wrote in yesterday and had one of his users accounts
altered after the automatic update on the twevlth of this month. He thinks
the auto update has somthing to do with it, but I am not so sure. I also did
full virus and other malware checks and my system was clean. Perhaps somebody
else here will have an idea what to do to fix this. I am waiting with bated
breath as I never received any response when I asked this question when it
happened on one of my systems. Good luck, and again, sorry this did not get
your account back in order. Happy Hollidays,

Seree
