Access denied on home network resources

have a small home network consisting of 3 pc's and 1 printer. the printer is
usb connected to one of the pc's and is shared. Everything worked "as
advertised" untill I had to reinstall xp home edition on one of the pc's.
Now that particular pc can no longer see the printer, nor can it see the pc
that the printer is connected. The workgroup bears the standard name of
"MSHOME." Can someone tell me what possibly went wrong and how I might
recover? I have tried all of the "cookbook" recommendations on this site, to
no avail.

Hi,

Open Windows Explorer, type \\Computer_name using the name of the computer
into the address bar, you should then be prompted to supply a username and
password for that system.

Okay, Rick. Must admit I don't uderstand what good that will do, but at this
point I'll try anything. I'm assuming you mean to use this procedure on the
pc that can no longer "join" the workgroup?

I can't get to the machine until saturday, but will report back ASAP.

Doing so should prompt the connection you are missing. Once entered the
logon data is entered, the system shouldbe able to access the network
resources. I'll be around Saturday.

Try turning off any 3rd party firewall software temporarily to see if that
fixes it. If it does then re-enable it and configure it to allow file and
printer sharing.

Rick, I might add, in trying to use the address bar on xp home addition (at
my home), I don't have the option of assigning a resource path. The address
bar is grayed out :)-<).
