Access Crashing when Attempting to Import Excel Files

Lena

Microsoft Access is crashing (has encountered a problem
and needs to shut down) every time I attempt to import an
Excel file. I have tried several different Excel files
and it happens every time. I recently converted my
database from Access 97 to Access 2002 (Access 2000)
version. I was able to import these files into my
database in it's 97 format without incident every day.

Any thoughts???

Hi Lena,

At exactly what stage in the process does the "encountered a problem"
message appear?

Create a new (empty) database. What happens when you import data from
Excel into that?

What happens if you export the data from Excel to a text file and then
import the text file into Access?

I have the same problem exporting and importing. Whether
it be Excel, txt, csv, etc. When i contacted support,
they said that Access 2000 and up doesnt support
importing text/csv. This is a major setback for me as I
was hoping to upgrade my twenty 97 databases to 2002.

Hmm. If you look at File | Get External Data | Import and then select text
files from the drop down box. It certainly indicates csv there as one of the
text formats. Apparently, you support isn't Access knowledgeable, as I know
Microsoft would have never said that statement.

Try to import the csv file into excel first. If it won't import, it is
possible not all the data is correctly delimited in the csv file. Open the
csv file into a text editor and check for 'bad data' and mixed datatypes in
fields. This is a common failure on importing.
