Access books recommendations

Morning,

I've been nagging the good folks of this form for a while, and I really
would like to get my knowledge expanded so I can do the question answering
instead of always asking. I don't have time for a course (I think it would
frustrate the bejesus out of me anyway) so I figure I can learn from books.

So what books should I get? I plan on getting several. I would consider
myself an intermediate user, although I'm afraid I might have missed a few of
the basic ideas.

What do you all think would be good books? Any other suggestions?

TIA

This is one of the best questions ever asked. I salute you.

1. "Access Developers Handbook" by Sybex, I think. This is the first one
you should get.
2. If you're going to do serious VBA, I recommend "HardCore Visual Basic" --
MSPress But that one is really hard to find because the Author had a
falling out with Microsoft, and MS subsequently yanked it. You might finda
used one on Amazon. I think it's a must have.
3. If you're going to do API stuff, Dan Appleman is the god. He wrote "VB
Programmers Guide to the WIN32 API" -- by ZDPress, I think.

Generally, anything I have ever bought from Sybex, QUE or MSPress has been
absolutely excellent.

Jeff,

Thanks for the link. I'll order today. Any suggestion on which one to
start with? Basically, I'm willing to read through a "starter" book just to
make sure I'm not missing anything.

Thanks again.

You cannot go wrong with the Access Developer's Handbook (ADH),
however, it is definitely NOT for starters. More advanced stuff for
sure so keep that in mind after progressing a bit in your studies.

Starting out I would recommend "Microsoft Office Access 2003
Inside Out" by MVP John Viescas. It covers *everything* in Access
and even includes a chapter on John's kitchen sink if I'm not mistaken.

For a good book on coding I also recommend:
"Access 2003 VBA Programmer's Reference"
by Patricia Cardoza, Teresa Hennig, Graham Seach, & Armen Stein.
Although if you are just starting out with programming you may want
to choose a beginning VBA book.

Good luck and enjoy your studies.
