Access Acting Up

Using MSOXPP with W2K for a couple of years. Recently, when opening Access
database located on another computer a Window pops up that says "Please wait
while Windows configures MSOXPP," goes through a process, and another window
pops up that says "Cannot find the file e:\[name of database] (or one of its
components). Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all
required libraries are available." The database then opens and all seems to
be well. Just prior to this, there was a corrupted table in the database
(became increasing slow and finally noticed that there were over 1.5 million
blank records in the many table). Couldn't do a delete query to remove and
ended up having to export the table to Excel, remove the blank records,
create a new database and import all the tables, queries, forms, reports,
macros, and modules to it. Then had to convert to an Access 2000 database.
I've applied the available service packs. It's not happening on any of the
other work stations. Any thoughts?

Thanks much!

First and always make copies of the corrupt files. You could have built a
new empty database and imported all the tables except for the bad one, then
delete all the other tables in the corrupt database and try a compact and
repair on the 1 table that was left. Failing that try JetComp.exe.

Then have a look at Tony Toews' Access Corruption FAQ at:

http://www.granite.ab.ca/access/corruptmdbs.htm

for some suggestions.

In the future, have a regular maintenance schedule for doing a compact and
repair. (We do ours at least once per week). Also, make sure to split your
database into front and back ends to reduce the chance of corruption.
There's a wizard built-in to do it for you. (Tools ... Database Utilities

Thanks, Arvin! I'll give some of these suggestions a go. I do compact and
repair every other week. Can't imagine what would cause the production of
blank records. Appreciate your assistance!

Forgot to ask you if you have any ideas about the problem with Access on the
one workstation (see below). It's with any database I try to open on this
one workstation..
