Access 97 to XP?

I have a database that was made using Access 97 and is currently running on
XP. I want to convert the database to XP so I can make changes on it. How
do I do that? Also I made a new database in XP and used the Append Query
Function to merge the data tables, this appeared to work except that it will
not save. It doesn't give you the option to save it either. This database
is pretty large, so rentry is not an option. Help! Thanks.
 
You open the database in Access 2002 and let it convert it for you when it
offers to.

I'm not sure I understand your second issue.
