Access 97 - msaccess.exe has generated errors

In Office 97 with Windows 2000. My Database opens and some of the forms open
OK but when I open 1 form I get msaccess.exe has generated errors and will
be closed down.
The form contains OnOpen....Write code which happen when the form opens.
When I remove this code, the form works fine.

I've tried downloading and installing VBA 232.dll to no avail.
I've ensured that DAO3.5 is in the list of references and none are missing.
I have the references
Visual Basic
Access 8.0
DAO3.5 in that order
and no others.
Any ideas anyone?
The form was working fine until I had to reformat my PC and reinstall Office
97.

I see that the same thing happens if I have a simple comboBox with FindFirst
on it. It really acts as if I've got a missing reference but I haven't. I've
unticked and re-ticked the DAO reference (Access wont' let me untick the
other ones.)
I've noticed that there are 4 Visual Basic for Applications in the list of
references. Could I have the wrong one? (I've got Vba32.dll ticked, the
other ones available are msvbvm50, msvbvm60 & vbaen32.olb)

I guess there are no answers to this. Many people seem to have had the same
problem and many solutions have been suggested but no one has written back
to say that any of them worked.
To sum up.
I have numerous databases using Access 97 and Windows 2000 Service Pack 4.
I have used them previously with the same operating system and without
problem but this time, after reformatting my hard drive and re-installing
Windows 2000 and then office:
whenever I open a form that contains Write or Read code
in the OnOpen or OnClose events
whenever I use a combo box with FindFirst code in it
I get the 'msaccess has generated errors' message.
What does not help:
There are no missing refererences. The references look just as they should.
Importing into a new database does not help.
(not surprising since it is highly unlikely that the many databases would
have spontaneously corrupted).
Applying the Service Packs did not help.
Uninstalling Reinstalling Access97 made no difference.
I am thinking of re-installing Office after removing all traces of it but I
would be very surprised if it makes any difference.
