Access 2007, when launching app

This is just annoying...

When I launch Access 07 I get the "Template Categories" and "Getting Started
with Microsoft Office Access" screen; from which I can choose a recently used
db or I can pick an existing template.

Is there any way to bypass this and just give me a blank screen?

That screen was added because a lot to users would start up the application,
and get stupid blank screen. I mean, what are you going to do with a silly
blank screen?

When you launch word, or you launch excel, they come up with a blank screen
or blank document already loaded for you to start editing and typing into,
and it's been that way for more than about fifteen years now.

I have to admit you get quite a nice presentation screen now, and it looks
100 times better than the old plane application at startup with absolutely
nothing.

Of couse, if you double click on an *EXISTING* application , then of course
you don't get that startup screen at all.

However this kind of begs the question what are you going to do with a blank
screen in the first place?

I'm not aware of any options that will suppress the screen, but that's of
course because you not opening any application at all.

You can always create a blank mdb file, and click on that to launch access
and you'll not see that screen.

The problem is is right after launching access, it's likely that you're
going to want to do something, so you given those choices. If you double
click on an existing application, then you don't get those choices.

I guess the question is what do you want to do AFTER you see the blank
screen? I'm asking this because perhaps we throw this into the suggestion
box for the next version of access. However I am just not 100% sure the
reasoning behind the need for this feature.

Thanks for the clarification. I guess I was expecting to be able to
customize the start-up screen, like I do with Word (changing the default of
having Full Screen Reading), or removing a Task Pane on start-up (which can’t
be done with Publisher!).

<relax… breath in…. it’s ok… change is good…. >

You can customize so that the start up screen is for your database. But, you
need to open your database instead of opening Access and then your database.
For most users they have a shortcut on their desktop, or Quick Launch bar,
which will start a specific database.

If you don't start a specific database then you get the new startup screen
with the options to select a previously opened database or to create a new
one. Looks totally good to me.
