I thought WinXp was supposed to be able to run and windows program?
My Autocad 2000 CD runs fine on my Win98 PC but won't install on my laptop
w/Win XP home edition, it said it's not compatible with XP, how is this
possible? Is there a work-around?
Thanks
Lloyd

You can use the Windows 98 Program Compatibility mode to run Autocad 2000 on
XP. Start this wizard (from All Programs > Accessories) and run through the
steps to install autocad from there using the Windows 98 mode.

"and"should be "any"?
No, and no one ever claimed as much.
No operating system ever has made or likely ever will make such a claim.
However Windows XP is designed with older programs in mind.
Try Compatibility Wizard as previously suggested.
Also contact the program manufacturer for more information about their
program.

If there is a work-around, it would have to come from the manufacturer
of AutoCAD, AutoDesk. This certainly isn't a Windows or Microsoft issue.

You do realize, don't you, that AutoDesk doesn't support the
installation of AutoCAD 2000 on any OS newer than Win2K, don't you?
At least, I can find no mention of any other operating systems in
conjunction with that specific version anywhere in AutoDesk's
knowledge base. In fact, the earliest version of AutoCAD specifically
mentioned as WinXP-compatible is AutoCAD 2002. Additionally, AutoCAD
2000 is scheduled for retirement on 15 Jan 2005. I think it's time
for you to seriously consider upgrading your AutoCAD to a more recent
(2002, 2004, or 2005) version.

You might try installing AutoCAD 2000 using WinXP's Win98 or Win2K
compatibility modes, but that's a long shot.

New OS's often require that you also use apps that were designed to run
with them.
