AC not recognized on laptop

I have an HP Pavilion zd7000 laptop and when I have the battery in, AC power
is not recognized. If I take the battery out it runs fine on AC. Is there
anything I can do(such as re-configuring a BIOS or re-registering a plug-in)?
Thanks for any help
 
Can you tell if the charger is working when you have the computer shut down?
So it charges when not using it.
