Absolute vs Relative Paths

When I add a graphic or a link in my website in design view, the html code automatically writes a relative path. When I go back in html and change it to an absolute path and then save the file, it saves it with the relative path not the absolute path
I don't mind changing the paths one at a time, but I can't get the changes to save. How do I do this?

1. Tools | Page Options | HTML Source, make sure preserve existing HTML is
enabled.

2. The best way to get this to work, is to make sure that image or page that
you are linking to is at the location of the absolute URL, when you create
the link and that you have a active internet connection
