About the EWF with disk.

George,
1. What does the overlay means? Can I recovery to any overlays(0-9)?

a disk image, produces another disk image that represents a later state of
the disk after the disk writes."

Yes, you can restore to the previous overlay level or any level if you use
EWF with Disk based Overlay.
Also, there is a configurable limit to the maximum overlay level. After this
limit is reached, EWF does not create higher overlay levels, and the
checkpoint command fails.
2. Where can I find the resource about the data on the partition that used
for the EWF overlays.

No documentation on that from MS.
3. About the QFE on the XP pro, I install the
Q824706_xpe_sp2_x86_enu.exe(OEM), and use the Chinese - simplified support.
After FBA, I want install normal QFE for XP pro Chinese-simplified , just
like WindowsXP-KB820291-x86-CHS.exe, but it said the language not support.

This is completely different issue from above, right?

Please read carefully the instructions and comments on the Q824706 QFE page
(https://microsoft.embeddedoem.com/content.asp?path=/downloads/winxp/qfe/ins
taller10#).
The use of the Installer Tool is further limited because QFE's packaged with
certain installation technologies may not work on all XP Embedded runtime
images.

Hope you also included Q842930 QFE
(https://microsoft.embeddedoem.com/content.asp?path=/downloads/winxp/qfe/842
930).

PS. Next time you may want to split your post and don't mix different
subjects in one thread. This may help others to reply as well as search
later in the archive.
