About IE restricting file from showing active content

Hi,

I used IE6 to view a HTML page that has got a button, which when clicked
would run "javascript: window.alert('hello')" and display a message box
with the string "hello". When IE opened this file from my local
computer, the information toolbar in IE shows "To help protect your
security, Internet Explorer has restricted this file from showing active
content that could access your computer. Click here for options...". But
when I upload this to a web server and then point to it in IE, the
information toolbar won't show up.

Is there any settings in Internet Options which I can change to make the
information toolbar go away?

Many thanks,
Michael.

Hi Ramesh,

Thanks for you prompt reply. Is it possible to get the same warning from
that information bar for those "script/ActiveX control"-containg HTML
pages downloaded from other websites?

Many thanks,
Michael.

Hi Michael,

Are you referring to the locally saved web page or in the Internet Zone?

Michael,

I don't think it's possible. But still you can block Activex controls, scripts (for the Internet Zone) via Security tab.

Hi Ramesh
sorry for intrusion, but I've a problem seem to be like Michael.
I mean that, I used a program based on HTML and ACTIVE X Control, in IE6.0 SP2
for some days, using below procedure, and without problem.
When program start, IE 6.0 SP2 inform me that an ACTIVE X control is blocked.
When I click on the bar a little window appear and give me possibility to
permit temporarily use of this ACTIVE X.
I changed some Security Settings and now, programs start again but
page appear whit blank screen.

I tried to reapply Default Security Settings, enable "Allow active content
to run in files on My Computer, but unsuccessfull.

Do you have an idea?
Thank You in Advance
Ciao

Marco,

It depends, on whether you're using a script or initiating a ActiveX control from the HTML page. Have you tried "Allow active content....." option?

I changed some Security Settings

Change them back? Use Sysem Restore if you have one near that
change.

If you hadn't included this detail the usual answer would have been
to try an IE Repair. In XPsp2 you can now do that by Run...

iexplore.exe /rereg

Note: I recommend you close all IE and OE windows first
since the real IE Repair is done during a reboot while *nothing*
is active.
