Please do not send me links to products that make PPT into DVDs. I have
several I am testing. However, none of VOD or MPEG files that are produced
will play in Window Media Player or in WinDVD, or anything else I have
tried.

In most cases, I am not burning the output file to a DVD, but saving it in a
folder on my hard drive.

I have checked to make sure I have the correct codecs, but the whole codec
thing confuses me.

Can one of you MVPs who know all about codecs help me?

Mary,

I don't think windows media player can play DVD video files straight out of
the box, either from a physical DVD disc of from the same files on a hard
drive.

Something to do with royalties and stuff - me thinks.

See

and I believe the correct file extension is for dvd video is VOB
http://www.afterdawn.com/glossary/terms/vob.cfm

to play them back you need a piece of DVD playback software installed on
your computer
