I like F-Prot because I can scan the system in Dos. You must have Fat32 to
be
able to use it.

I want to use Windows Live OneCare, but I think to use it in a test PC maybe
with Windows Vista
thanks

That's my point, too.

Thereby proving my point that we all haved different opinions about thing
slike this. You think I'm wrong, andf I think you're wrong. The OP is left
with no more info than when he started.

Thanks...my question was because I only had used Symantec and I needed more
opinions because I want to change symantec
thanks Ken

You're welcome. One thing that most qualified people here *will" agree on is
that getting rid of Norton (Symantec) is a very good thing to do. And McAfee
is almost as bad.

And Panda is even worse.

I have no experience with Panda, so I have no comments on it.

I have. It slows down computers a lot. Not only that, they spam like
crazy, mostly in Spanish but in English as well.

I need to know as it is the best antivirus?, because I want to install one.

AVG
NODE32
SYMANTEC
PANDA
BIT DEFFENDER
MCAFFE
TREND
AVAST

thanks
pedro

The people who haunt anti-virus groups will tell you that Nod32 and
Kaspersky (spelling?) are the front runners. I use the free AVAST!
offering and it hasn't let me down in over a year. However safe hex does
help.

Agree. Avast's products are all topnotch and don't mess up other software, or
your box. No Hiccups ever. It uninstalls really clean. Have been using
several of them in different locations for a couple of years and the only
viri I caught were in the quarantine chest before they finsihed opening. I
like it because I can then add these little beasties to collection for
testing all the other makers. You'd be surprised how many of the biggest miss
one or 2 that Avast doesn't. They're a Czech company. Always was a bit
Bohemian myself. Good company to buy stock in with products this good. If MS
is sharp enough to pick up Win/Sysinternals, Avast is what they need to make
OneCare's AV the best of the breed. I'm waiting to see if they sell
themselves or stay independent. If you run a mix of Servers take a look at
their Server Products. Plugins for everything you need.

You said about Avast... "No Hiccups ever".

That's a faux conclusion !

A perfect example is the Avast False Possible declaration of VBS:Zulu using IE7 accessing
Microsoft web pages. This Flase Positive was shown to occur for ~60 days before it was
corrected.

False positives by an anti virus product are normal but one that lasts for 60 days is a
"major hiccup" !

Just goes to show how rather minor differences can change things
dramatically. Used all the betas and the released versions of IE7 and just
really haven't warmed to it yet. I still prefer 6.02 for all of the toolbar
carrying capacity. Really like Opera a lot about that too. I just love
getting under the hood and tweaking all sorts of stuff, can't live without a
full Links bar displaying instant access to my really vital netspots. But
I've got a really large screen and can afford to waste all that screenestate
and still see the whole webpage, others with smaller monitors and perhaps
Vista users would probably prefer IE7. I'll get around to reinstalling it
when I reinstall Virtual PC. Or put IE7 on the main configuration and use the
new preconfigured VPC VHD with XP2 and IE6.02 they're offering till it times
out. I'm just marking time with XPsp2 till I can get a Vista Ultimate box
with dual Opterons. I have some plans for that machine. As a matter of
interest, what's your favorite AV and what OS do you run with it? I'm always
looking for new and different security software/ideas. Guess at this point I
ought to place this under a seperate thread cuz I kinda veered away from
Avast. That is a remarkable blip. Then again my broadband doesn't support
Vista yet. There's always a new set of headaches with a new platform.
Thanks, I'll keep that in mind when I make recommendations to others who are
going with IE7!

My favourite AV is the McAfee Enterprise software (NOT the reatail stuff).

I've run McAfee Enterprise on ALL the Win16/Win32 OS' by Microsoft.

As for your statement "...my broadband doesn't support Vista yet."
Who says they have to ?
The Internet is based upon TCP/IP and *any* TCP/IP complaint OS can access the Internet.
