? about Add/Remove Windows components

My MSN Explorer suddenly decided not to work even after a system restore so
I decided to repair it. I highlighted it and clicked next. I don't know
what it did but immediately the machine was screwed up and I had to
reinstall windows after formatting.
Is there something I should know about "repairing" that way?
Another question. I tried first to an sfc /scannow and inserted my
slipstreamed XP SP1/SP2 disc and it stuck permanently at "Installing
Network". So had to start from the beginning.
It has been said that you can't slipstream an OEM XP SP1 with SP2 but I have
successfully formatted and done a fresh install that way.
So why would it stick at that stage of the "update" installation?
I'm the only user but connect to cable via LAN (Intel Pro/100 VE adapter)

Sounds like your msn was highjacked,or maybe a virus.A better way to repair
may have been to remove it from add/remove then go to the program file folder
and reinstall from there.When you install your service packs that way you may
want to unplug all your hook-ups IE: ethernet cord , all USB , speakers ,
things not needed for operating system.Then install your service packs.I've
sometimes had problems with installs hanging up with the same machine doing
that,just never had any problem if I unplug everything not needed before
installing.Not sure but if you leave your connection on and it's busy being
used like auto update or antivirus update or anything running using the
connection,your install can hang till it has access to it,or just stop.Hope
this helps.

Yes it does, thanks. I had my McAfee run right away, it found
nothing...must have been me, I was doing things in the registry earlier...ah
well, we live and learn!
