When I tried AbiWord months ago (I think it was 2.0.4 I had),
it was quite good but didn't fit my purpose as it didn't have
good enough support for tables created in M$word doc (AbiWord
can open Word doc with tables, but the table and lines was
almost entirely uneditable to me, and table making were just
totally cripple in AbiWord). Does anyone know if this has
been changed/imporoved since then? If it has good enough
table support, I wouldn't mind trying it again.

Now, I wonder just ... why ... would a decent program like ABIWord be
available in a version 2.0.9 for a plethora of secondary and minor operating
systems first. Why was Windows neglected? Isn't Windows 99% of the
universe?

are you sure?

latest figures show 95.496823097%

LOL

I think you are right, it was in fact:

95.49682309749999999999999999999999999999...%

(Sorry, the last decimal wasn't yet showing the last time I
checked.)

Not in the Free Software/Open Source world.

Windows support is pretty much an afterthought as it
*SHOULD* be since the vast majority of FSS/OS developers
aren't interested in Windows or use it as an programing
enviroment.

That's what makes all the hype coming from the Windows
..Net "community" consering Mono so damned funny.

The WIKI at Abisource still says:
<http://www.abisource.com/twiki/bin/view/Abiword/FaqMicrosoftWordDocuments>
"Presently, AbiWord can open basic Microsoft Word documents well...
However, if the document has complicated tables, embedded
spreadsheets, and so forth, then it might not work as expected...
AbiWord can currently save in an MS Word compatible ".doc" format.
This is done by saving as Rich Text Format (.rtf) but with a .doc
extension."

For importing fancy MS-Word documents or for any complex work, I've
found OpenOffice more dependable.

hmmm...guess that they are still working on that. Thanks for
the information :)
