Ability to change Background Disabled

gary.cobden

Hi

I know there is a setting somewhere in the Registry/Group Policy that
will allow me to enable the Display Properties Desktop BAckground
option which is currently greyed out and locked, thus preventing me
from making simple changes.

Can anyone assist please

Restore Desktop Display Properties:-
Line 285 Right hand side - restore display tabs.
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

or you can try:-

Start>Run, and type:
regsvr32 /i shell32
regsvr32 themeui

Reboot the computer.

Hi
This is a plea for help as well, I've tried the things you were recommended
but my computer knowledge is limited and I could only try the second option.
Can you help me fix the problem?

I also need to fix my background. I cant change the background in the desktop
tab in the dsiplay properties panel. The area where you select your wallpaper
is grayed over. I can change the color in the lower left hand corner, but not
the picture. I would appreciate any advice or help.

P.S. I also tried both ways suggested. the problem still precists. Regedit
value is set to zero.

I too have the same issue on my son's laptop. I have tried the same
suggestions as well with no luck. Anyone have any other suggestions. I know
that at one point he could change and do all the stuff he is supposed to be
able to do but it just stopped and all he can do is change the color now.

Try here:

Restore missing tabs to the Display properties dialog:

If the "Desktop" tab is already visible, but the wallpaper options are
greyed out, try this:

Start Regedit.exe and navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
(and)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\SystemDelete the values "Wallpaper" and "WallPaperStyle" in the right-pane.Close Regedit.exe--Regards,Ramesh Srinivasan, Microsoft MVP [Windows XP Shell/User]Windows® XP Troubleshooting http://www.winhelponline.com"Ramesh, MS-MVP" <[email protected]> wrote in messagenews:[email protected] here:Restore missing tabs to the Display properties dialog:http://www.winhelponline.com/articl...isplay-properties-dialog.html--Regards,Ramesh Srinivasan, Microsoft MVP [Windows XP Shell/User]Windows® XP Troubleshooting http://www.winhelponline.com"norsehallra" <[email protected]> wrote in messagetoo have the same issue on my son's laptop.
