A8N-SLI PREMIUM SATA PROBLEM

J

javajeff

I dont know if I am the only one with this problem, but I had a tough
time getting my only SATA drive to work. Now I get a slow boot and
paging file errors in Event Viewer. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I assume the slow boot is because of this error:

I installed nForce4_amd_6.70_winxp2k_english.exe from the nvidia
website. I also installed everything from the CD that came with the
board. I definately feel like this is a driver issue, and I am very
confused about what I should install. Everything is running fine though.

I pluged the single Hitachi 160gb SATA Deskstar hard drive into the
black SATA port on the mobo.

Thanks for your assistance.

happy new year

i normally never install the on-cd drivers that comes with hardware, only if the updated
from vendor/chip producer fails (like vendor specific mods)! i had to use the cd in this
case but only for the extended acpi port from asus. (atk0110 acpi utility)

have any faulty hardware icons in hardware manager?

I just took it out of a perfectly working system, and it is less than
two months old. I think it is a driver or bios issue.

I had slow POST problem caused by SATA drive, this would happen in my last
MSI K8N Diamond. I assumed it is a BIOS problem.

I think that I am in better shape now. I disabled the extra NIC and
RAID controller in the bios, and the machine is booting faster now.
Hopefully, it will continue to do so. I have no issues in device
manager, but I still have the "Safely Remove Devices" icon in the system
tray. It lists "HDS722516VLSA80 at Location 0," which happens to be the
hard drive. I never had that icon when this hard drive was in my Asus
A8V Deluxe computer. This is my first PCIE machine.

I think that I need to spend more time tweeking and getting used to the
drivers and bios settings. It was a rather smooth build, but I used an
Antec P180 case which actually required me to read the instructions. :)

hi

normal. all sata hd's will be treated like hot-swap (through it will be stupid to try ;-)
the tray icon "Safely Remove Devices" will show the hd's just ignore or make the "Safely
Remove Devices" icon allways hidden...

Thanks for the tips. It does not bother me that much. I just wanted to
make sure it was not an issue with the system. I do not have the "hide
inactive icons" active anyways, so I will just leave it be for now.

I have one last error to figure out:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7023
Date: 1/1/2006
Time: 7:11:25 PM
User: N/A
Computer: EAGLE
Description:
The Computer Browser service terminated with the following error:
This operation returned because the timeout period expired.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Any insight is appreciated.

hi

http://support.microsoft.com/?id=327649

are you running iis? (or smtp, ftp, webbrowser)
if not these system services are not crusial and can (should?) be stoped!

i have nearly every service inaktivated, only needed ones is running, much safer that way.
(computer get's just a little bit faster also!)

Thanks for all your help coco. I think that I created the error by
turning off services. I think the cuprit was the windows firewall, so I
turned it back on, and then off in the settings for it. I prefer to use
hardware port protection.

I think that I have everything running smooth right now. It is always
fun to build a new machine and tweak it over the weeks. My next step is
likely a sound card to replace the onboard sound.

I had the same error 51 with a new setup. After running Memtest86, I
discovered that my ram timings coupled with inexperienced overclocking were
the culprit. After setting ram timings to default and lowering my ram FSB,
Memtest86 diagnostic ran without any errors. System was very stable and fast
as a result.

Stefano
