I'm attempting to replace my existing IDE drive with a new Maxtor SATA
drive.

I tried the following:

- ran the auto setup for the Promise Fasttrack bios
- leaving my IDE in the system I rebooted
- in XP I loaded the Promise driver
- ran MaxBlast to copy everything from the IDE drive to the SATA drive

I then disconnected the IDE drive and attempted to boot from the SATA
drive. I got the initial Windows boot menu, but then the PC rebooted
itsself.

Am I missing something?

Thanks,

Dave

Your drive letters probably haven't changed when you expected them to. Not
sure how to fix that.

In the BIOS, disable Boot from IDE drive.

I believe I got the bios boot settings correct. It seems that it
starts booting XP (it gets to the XP boot menu) but then something
goes wrong.

you may also have to enable SATA in the BIOS.

Boot with the XP CD and do a Repair Installation. Don't select the first
"R" - continue on as if you were going to do a clean full install. XP will
find your installation then you can select"Repair"
