P4C800+Sata Hard Drives

Hi All.

Can any one Please give me any help in getting a P4C800 Deluxe to
boot from a Maxtor 160 SATA HD under IDE conditions, I loaded the
onboard promise controller and set it to IDE, It would boot off the
SATA as long as there were IDE drives present Indeed, I had it running
of the Maxtor for about three months, but when I tried to add a drive
or chane a drive around it throws up a NTLDR Missing error or
alternately a hardware configuration error, any help would be
appreciated as i have two maxtor SATA 160gb Drives lying here
gathering dust (Plain English please)

Regards.

I have a similiar setup and found the P4c800-e installed my USB drives as C:
and D:, my DVD combo drive as E: and DVD burner as F: which then made my
first available HDD G:.

Long and short of it: The OS was originally configured as a C: drive (on
another machine) and I had to reformat and install it again. Maybe there was
a better way to solve this, but it works fine now as a RAID 0.

NTLDR loads the OS in Win XP and is an important boot file. If I am
thinking right the new drive has windows installed but is not the boot
drive. This is fine until you remove the boot drive (the old IDE drive) and
it would not work any more as the BIOS could not find a drive with a Master
Boot Record (MBR tells system where the boot file is on the disk)

The boot files need to be on the New HDD for it to work but I am not sure if
this is possible just to copy them across or if you need to run windows
setup again.
