A7N8X-E Deluxe PCB Revision

Hello everyone,

Having gotten our new A7N8X-E Deluxe + XP 2600+ -based system to work
after a full day (! this time is longer than the sum of all hours I
spent on all Asus-based systems I have put together till now) of
struggling with different RAM + Video card configurations, I went to
the ASUS web site to find out that there are different bios updates
for different PCP revisions. (I know I should have done this before).

Is there a way to determine which PCP revision we have w/o opening up
the case ?

And probably more important - why are there so many PCB revisions? Is
this a problematic board ? (well - another question too late - but
would still like to know) I have read many postings on problems ... ?

Many thanks in advance,
-arifi

I think you are looking at the A7N8X with different BIOS for
different revision numbers. I've only seen the rev. 1.01 board,
for the A7N8X-E, although to make it more confusing the 1.01
board will appear as 2.x in most info software. There is only one
BIOS series for the A7N8X-E Deluxe.

If you were flashing with a regular A7N8X BIOS or even an
A7N8X-E non-deluxe BIOS; I would expect you to have a
number of problems.

Luck;

YES !!! Many thanks for the warning. I *was* looking at the non-e
version. Now, with this confusion cleared, it's time to lean back and
enjoy another Asus ! Thanks again.

I struggled with my first A7N8X-E Deluxe for several days, and could
not get it to work correctly. The Serial ATA prompt would not always
appear, it wouldn't work correctly with my sound card, etc. It seemed
like a IRQ conflict or something, so I kept fighting with it.

Finally I sent the board to ASUS for replacement. The second board
was flawless, did plug and play correctly, etc. Had the replacement
board working perfectly with all the same hardware as before in under
15 minutes.
