A7N8X & DVD Burning with Nero

Anyone had a problem with burning DVD's using Nero 6? I have a Sony DVD
burner and the newest version of Nero under XP professional - I am getting
ALOT of coasters when backing up my DVD collection. I get glitchy video and
it freezes in my stand alone player toward the middle of the movie. I have
tried different media, slower burning speed and even a different computer
(also a A7N8X deluxe) and I still get glitchy video. Here are the specs -
just hoping someone out there is having a similar issue. I am going to try
new ASPI drivers tonight.

Athlon 2800+ Barton @ 12.5*166
A7N8X-Deluxe 2.0 BIOS 1005
Asus GeForce4 Ti 4200 8X 128mb
Corsair XMS 2700 DDR (256x2)
Sony DRX-510UL DVD Writer
Western Digital Raptor SATA HD

If you are using the Nvidia IDE drivers, try uninstalling them and using
the default Microsoft ones - Nero seems to hate the weirdy Nvidia ones that
pretend to be scsi devices.

Have you tried burning at a slower speed? 1X instaed of 2X?
Increasing the size of the Ultrabuffer?

Good idea - exactly what the Sony tech support told me to try.. He also
mentioned uninstalling all DVD burning software and then reinstalling one
and one only. The combination of both led to one successful disk last
night - I hope that's all it was......

Some of burning software install their own drivers for packet writing to
CDRW. Multiple drivers from different vendors can interfere with one
another, but nowadays most burning software give you the choice of not
installing such custom packet writing drivers if you don't want them.

yes I have had problems with nero but a variety of other software works fine
just seems to be nero that didn't handle the video burn. intervideo winDVD
creator is the kindest I eventually got nero to work by realising that the
upgrade packs only upgrade small sections of nero the visionexpress 2 part
now burns quickly and well I too have the DRX500UL with firmware 2.0f
(flashed from sony's site) unfortunately for me I don't have your high spec
board are you connecting through firewire or USB2? I am using a powered USB2
hub which enables me to burn at 4 speed no problem at all.
pile of tripe about software brands mixing I am running nero 6.0.19, DVD
decryptor, intervideo winDVD creator 2 and clone DVD it is there stock
excuse if they don't know. I use clone DVD to back up discs.

I installed CloneDVD last week and liked it alot. It was the 30 day trial
but I removed it when the Sony tech suggested removing all DVD burning
programs. I might reinstall it again because as I keep doing more research
on the web it seems like Nero is mentioned alot - I guess Nero put the files
on the DVD in a slightly differnent order then most programs. I guess that
could be causing some of my problems.

For now I am making ISO files before I burn the disks to see if that helps.
I backed up Hulk last night - turned out perfect except one small glitch
right at the end that I might be able to blame on the media (as it was the
far outside of the disk).
