A7N8X Dlx 3200+ 1 gig matched PC-3500 seems slow????

I have this board as described above with PC-3500 (matched pair)(433) memory
running in sync with the Barton 2500+ clocked at 3200+ (running 200 MHz FSB)
and it does not feel very snappy, not like I would expect. I have run sandra
benchmarks on it and am somewhat dissapointed. I can't remember the numbers
right now but they are most definately not what I would expect. Drives are
running in DMA mode, I just can't figure out why it seems slow, it is a new
install of XP Pro, not much running in the background...I built my father in
law a machine using the non deluxe board and clocked the same chip (2500+)
at the factory speed, w/ one stick of corsair 512 meg memory running in
single mode (mine is running in dual mode) his is running Windows 2K and it
seems much snappier than mine....how can that be?....any ideas? Could XP use
that much more Horse Power just to run?
TIA

I have the same set up as yours, PC Mark 2000 gives CPU score of 6828, MEM at 5963
Sandra 2004:
CPU arithmetic :
Dhrystone 8359
Whetstone3457

Memory 3027/2828

Mine is Mushkin 512 x 2 (1&3) set at Agressive

Post your result and we can compare notes.

Where can I get PC Mark 2000? also I have Sisoft Sandra 2003 not the '04
version
I also have not set my timings to "agressive" I did not think it would, or
could, make that much difference, but I shall set it to agressive and
see.....Then I'll post my SSandra 2003 scores.
Thanks,.

I think you need to give us some numbers, not simply say that it isn't
"snappy".

what chipset drivers are you using? what type of stuff is in your
system tray (backgroung tasks)? is it a good PSU or a generic one?
also, when you reboot, does it get a little better? have you gone in
and disabled any of the krap services (the ones that no one
uses...LOL)? what programs are showing up in 'msconfig' (startup tab)?
what bios?

sounds close to my system, and mine has some good snap. i run mainly
norton anti-virus in the background. i also used the 'black viper' and
MaximumPC tweaks to turn off some of krap services that winXP has
started.
