A7N8X Deluxe Cold Boot Issue

Help!!!

A7N8X Deluxe Rev 2.0
Bios Uber R1007
XP2600/333
Corsair XMS Twin X 3200LL (2) x 256
Antec 400 Watt
Ext Freq @ 200
Mult @ 10.5
Vcore 1.75

During cold boot system hangs before booting to OS. If I hit the reset
it boots fine. It also warm boots fine.

I've tried the following:
New CMOS battery
Different power supplys
Different graphics card
Different hard disks
All possible IDE combinations
All BIOS settings
All BIOS revs
RMA'd mother board/NewEgg sent another brand new board(same result)

Machine always runs rock solid after boot.

Other observations:
After I physically switch power leads or hardware i.e. PS, graphics
etc. it cold boots fine. Then after a day or so it goes back to same
old stuff. I've also have the post reporter occasionally tell me the
RAM is bad (it isn't, mem86 will run forever) but think this is
normal. I shut it off.

Could try RMA again but am thinking the same thing will happen. I'd
like to stick with this board as it's excellent other than this issue,
which is driving me nuts!!!!!!!

Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried manual ram timings ? I have seen that problem once with an
off brand memory module. The module tested and ran fine but did not like a
cold boot. Maybe a problem with the system recognizing it correctly.
Trying one module and disconnection any external devices is also worth a
shot.

Good Luck

Or even different RAM. Corsair 256Mb modules are not on the Asus list.

Its not the memory, Corsair is the best memory for this board.

I've tried "Halt on no errors" with no luck. I'm sure the ram is fine
as I've read of many others using the same on this board with
excellent results.

I'm now disconnecting devices (usb scanner, racing wheel & pedals) 1
at a time to see what happens.

Please keep the ideas coming!

Please keep the ideas coming!

If you have a fan right at the RPM shut down threshold that might
explain it. Only after the motor is warm will it increase to the RPM's
that the BIOS or Probe want to see for allowing start up.

If you have a fan right at the RPM shut down threshold that might
explain it. (How do I check the RPM shut down threshold?)
Only after the motor is warm will it increase to the RPM's
that the BIOS or Probe (Not using probe - I use MBM5) want to see for
allowing start up.

I have a rev 1.06 board and with bios 1006 it will boot with no CPU fan
installed. I dont have options in the bios for setting a threshold.

If you problem occurs while booting, thats before MBM5 is loaded so your
only choice would be to look into the bios. Rev 2 boards may have more
options than my rev 1.06.

I had the same problem on a cold boot. Tried every thing. I mean
everything! Even RMA'd the board. You know what it was for me? I had my
Micro$ft Sidewinder joystick plugged into a USB 1 hub. Unplug joystick, no
cold boot problem. So I unplugged the hub and plugged the joystick into the
port on the back of the PC and no more problem. It's a great board but I
think the USB is a bit hinky on it.

I've unplugged my sidewinder wheel & pedals. We'll see what happens!
