when I search a CD for a file (windows explorer std search function)
it comes back showing the file but indicating the folder as

C:\documents and Settings\...\local settings\application
data\microsoft\cd burning\(correct folder path on CD)

if i go to the cd and look into the folder indicated by the last part
of that it is there.

IE, if I replace the above path with V:\(correct folder path on CD)
(V: being the CD drive) that is where I find it.

WHY IS IT DOING THAT????????????????

thx

IFF I understand you; it's a little confusing to read:

It doesn't exist on your hard drive; only a reference to it on your CD
exists on the hard drive. So, both are leading you to the CD path. Normal
operation.

OK u are not suppose to confuse me when I am trying to confuse you.

I do a right click and SEARCH on the CD via windoz explorer.

It comes back showing the file but indicating that the path is

C:\documents and Settings\...\local settings\application
data\microsoft\cd burning\(correct folder path on CD)

the actual path is V:\(correct folder path) -- I forgot what it
actually is. V: is the CD drive.
there is nothing in the "CD Burning" folder

OK, I did a clean install.

Guess what, IT STILL DOES THE SAME THING.
with different CDs and DVDs.
It seems to be file dependent as some files are reported on the DVD
unit and some in the CD Burning folder and there is nothing in that
folder.

I searched for "SETUP".
I seems like if it is in the root it reports it on the DVD.
If it is in a subfolder it reports it in CD Burning.

But some files that are other than just setup, like UBsetup report
correctly. But it is not limited to setup as I searched "*.dll" and
got similar results.

the search function works fine on my other computers and it works fine
with a third party explorer (Directory OPUS).
there is nothing in the CD Burning folder. I never use it.
