A problem with .mht association

I got IE6 updated with sp1. The .mht file association is
not working. I cant see a preview for such files in the
thumbnail view and when the file is opened with the IE I
see a jargon instead of the web page contents

I tried to reinstall IE6 but couldnt because of the
service pack 1. I did not find anywhare how to uninstall
the IE or the SP1. Removal of windows components didnt
remove IE6 sp1.

Reassociation efforts also failed.

How can I fix the assoc problem or uninstall IE6 with the
sp1?

It's not a fix, as a workaround I associated my mht files with MS
Word. Word (XP at least) will convert them from web archive and the
page displays just fine, images, formatting, and links intact.
