"A problem is preventing Windows from accurately checking the license.."

I'm working on a Compaq pc for a friend. WinXP Home is
installed. After installing SP1 from the Windows Update
site, I now get the following error "A problem is
preventing Windows from accurately checking the license
for this computer. Error Code:0x8007007f".

From what I have found, I either have to do a repair or go
into safe mode and delete some reg entries. Now, I can't
get into safe mode since whichever account I click on
gives me that error message. I don't have a WinXP Home cd
since his PC is a Compaq and they only provided him with a
Quick Restore cd. A Quick Restore is not an option, since
that will delete his data back to the factory image of
course.

This is very frustrating since I have installed SP1 on
atleast 600+ PC's without any problem. PLEASE HELP!

why use a key changer when the license is legit in the
first place? I was looking for a real solution to this
problem, not a hack tool - i've got plenty of those.
Thanks though...I unistalled SP1a and the problem went
away.
