A moving flashlight pops up when I click on "My Computer"

-- When I click on "My Computer" I get a flashlight that moves around for a
minute or two before showing the different drives on the PC. Is there a
setting that I can change/check to make sure that my PC is operating
optimally? I do not get the flashlight with another PC I have that also
runs XP.

This is normal, kind of. What the flashlight is portraying is the system is
searching for files. If it's always a long delay ( more than a few seconds
in my opinion) it can mean that you,
a: have several programs open and running
b: the folders in My Computer have many, many files,
c: if you have WIA enabled in Services
Or, if you have an HP Scanner/ScanJet
OR, certain modems can cause this.

Choices a or b would be my first guess.
