Ok, I hope you're sitting for this one. My problem is this. I have broadband,
and my modem is working just fine. The problem is, on my main desktop PC, I
will connect to the internet, and my status reports show that everything is
connected just fine at 100mbs. But, when I try to run any browsing programs,
P2P programs, or instant messaging programs, or anything else that needs to
connect to the internet to work, they seem to think that I am not connected.
I know it is not my provider because I am posting this from my laptop using
all the same things my dektop uses, (modem, cords, provider, etc.) and it is
connected just fine. I have tried everything from refreshing my IP to running
a system restore to two months ago, and nothing has worked. If anybody could
help me in my troubles in any way, I would greatly appreciate it.

Open a Command Prompt and from inside the window type,
Ping Dslreports.Com

The ping should return 4 packets with 0% loss. If you do not
get return packets then your NIC or TCP/IP settings are not
correct. Next from the command prompt (Type) Ipconfig/all
Examine the TCP/IP settings - if the NIC is addressed starting
with 169 you are not getting an IP from the ISP's DHCP server.
Make sure that your NIC is using the correct DNS & Gateway
for your Internet Provider, if so - Then your issue maybe due
to Spyware/HiJacks or other things like a re-directed Hosts
file.

Yes, am sitting....I find it awfully difficult to read from my screen or
type standing up. :o)

Check your settings here:

To resolve this behavior, edit the connection settings for the broadband
connection to enable automatic detection:

1. Start Internet Explorer.
2. Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options.
3. Click the Connections tab.
4. Under Dial-up and VPN Settings, click the broadband connection, click
Settings, and then click Automatically detect settings.
5. Click OK.
