hi i have a seemingly rather special situation:

i have a laptop that has had its mac address registered to the company
wireless access point.
what i want to do, is to share out that internet connection using a
dlink 614+ to several other pcs and laptops equiped with wireless
network cards.

as of now i still havent been able to connected the Dlink up with my
ICS laptop without getting the 'Limited connectivity' warning.
....nor do i have any idea how to setup such a connection.
the ICS laptop already has Internet Connection Sharing activated on its
wirelesss connection with the company wireless AP.

any suggestions?

Thanks.

Is there a network administrator at your company? If so, ask that
person whether company policy allows additional wireless networking
devices. If it does, that person should be able to help you set
everything up.

well basically nothing can be changed at the internet access provider's
side. its not even my own work place. im just there as a visitor on
assignment. which is why, i guess, everything is so restricted.

hmm any suggestions?
i dont even know what type of setup this is called in networking
terms...

I suggest that you do nothing without the full knowledge, approval,
and cooperation of the network administrator at the company where
you're a visitor. Doing anything on your own could get you ejected
from that company.

I'm sorry if that seems harsh, but companies today have to be vigilant
about protecting their networks and their data.

You mean besides "attempting to use WiFi without authorisation"? How about
"possible termination of visitor assignment"?

Seriously, you need to work with the network admins, if you're a visitor. Right
now, it's only possible that you'll be detected, and eventually terminated.
When NAP, and similar increasingly necessary precautions go into place, you'll
be detected routinely, and immediately terminated.

thanks for the replies.

i gathered as much that what im trying to do isnt against any of their
policies for vistors so im fine there....
and to simplify things, i onyl want to register one of our computers to
have access to their wireless access point.
