Thanks guys, installed Windows XP SP-2 and all is well now, mind you I had a
minor issue installing SP-2 and got a error message about msdart.dll, I just
downloaded this file and renamed the old one to msdart.old and it completed
the installation ok, not sure if this was related.

Cheers and thanks
Clayton

Some people report that InCD causes this (not Nero but InCD comes with Nero and I thought you might only have heard of Nero). The problem goes away if InCD is uninstalled. My memory is saying Zone Alarm too but I'm not sure if that's a correct recall. Check InCD first.

This MSDART.DLL problem is an MDAC/ODBC issue and most likely not
related. In order to run a stable system, you may want to uninstall
SP2 (Control Panel > Add/remove Software), install MDAC 2.8 and
re-install SP2.

Nice work, Detlev. <w>

Thanks, Kelly.)
SP2 installs the latest MDAC components and therefore, it's not
possible to install MDAC 2.8 on top of SP2 (error message). Makes
the procedure somewhat inconvenient but it's required to ensure
that there is no MDAC mismatch caused by that downloaded system file.

Most welcome and most informative, Detlev. Thank you!)

BTW, need to drop you a line about a German MVP.

Sure, go ahead. You may want to mail it to (e-mail address removed).

Hi Detlev,
I have another issue which I have posted to this group today which is on
another computer and was wondering if it was releated to the MDAC 2.8? the
only problem is that the system was running XP Home SP-1 and I updated the
system using a XP Pro SP-2 CD so I think there is no way of removing SP-2
(post below)

I have a customer running a software application specific to their business
which runs along side Microsoft Access (the database for the parogram is in
..mdb format and ever since installing the SP-2 it would kick you out of the
program completely when you are using the Tab and down arrow key on the
keyboard in certian area's of the program.

I have contacted the vendor who made the program and was told they do not
support it anymore but gave me a file to run nevertheless which appears to
update the .dlls but that hasn't fix it and he has no idea why, one
suggested idea from him is to remove SP-2.

I'm pretty familiar with the Office components except "MS Access".
If there are no replies in this group, you may want to address this
issue to an Access group: microsoft.public.access.*
It's also a good idea to tell the particular Access/Office version.
