A curiosity: how long does it take to compile Vista?

Hi

I was wondering how long does it take to compile a full OS like Windows
Vista... Any place to find superficial details about that?

Well...
....they went from build 5600 to 5728 in about three weeks...
...so if they were working full time 24 hours a day...
...that would be about 4 hours per build...

I was curious what language the majority of Vista was written in... I heard
that XP was written in c and c++ with some assembly, but who knows.

I think that 'majority' of Vista, you mean 'kernel', is coded with pure C as
things was since MSDOS 5. Personally I think that Vista is not a new thing
(developed about five years), it's roots are in Windows Server 2003 with all
security updates, new WDM model and a nice UI, but cost of not being fully
backward compatible. All previous Microsoft's operating systems try to
acknowledge the new existing hardware. Vista goes ahead and there is no fully
compatible hardware up to date, maybe vendors give us dedicated Vista
hardware in the next year!
