A Crazy Little Box in FrontPage

Guest

After publishing to ftp I got something really weird and I want to know what
it is/means before I click ok.

It's a popup box. At the top it says: Microsoft FrontPage
Then there's a yellow warning sign and beside it is "500?"
Then you have to press ok.

Can someone explain what this is all about?

Perhaps a permissions warning?

Why are you using ftp??? It will break your fp extensions

I am using ftp because that is how the person at the server location told me
to do. Then I'm supposed to publish it to http. Besides, I have been
reading about people losing their fp ext. I went and checked mine and sure
enough mine aren't working either.

oye... no no no....

FTP will break the extensions don't do it. You should be publishing via
http:// method...or you'll be repairing your extensions on a regular basis.

Using FTP will corrupt the FP Extensions. That's why you should always
publish via HTTP

Okay, this is to both Rob and David.

After I got my files cleaned up, I sent a support ticket to my server to
have my frontpage extensions enabled. Anytime, they should be up. What I
was doing was taking the backdoor in through ftp and then to http like they
told me. Less stress. The reason being is that I couldn't get my site up
through http. Is it all because of the frontpage extensions being disabled?

Probably combination of you trying to publish incorrectly and having cracked
the extensions by using ftp.

Once you have the correct homepage (index.htm or html whichever it was) then
don't your FTP again use Publish via http:// method. You'll probly have to
repair the extensions again before you http://.

I am actually FrontPage Savvy. I don't know what happened to my name. It
automatically changed on me.
Anyway, I have fussed with my server about enabling my FrontPage extensions
and it seems like I am getting the runaround. I asked for FrontPage
extensions on 6/29 at 3:30

You ought to ask your host, or check their web info, to see if you have
access to CPanel (I think you may be on linux/unix box)...if you have access
to CPanel and the host allows it you can reset/uninstall/reinstall the
extensions yourself. Pushing the button takes only a couple of seconds :)

Or ask if they have a similar online control panel...most hosts do.

I do have a cpanel. I've tried to reinstall quite a few times but nothing
works. That's why I have decided to contact support for some help.

R

Have you stopped using FTP?
If not do so now.
Repair or reinstall the extensions.
Then try to Publish via http:// method.
If it works you're done...and never use FTP again.
If it doesn't work have your host reset your un/pw and try Publish via
http:// method again.

Yes, Rob, I have stopped using ftp and then I reinstalled the extensions.
Nothing.
BUT.......MY SITE IS UP!!!!!!!!! Stupid me, the reason it would not show up
on the internet is because I didn't republish before I pulled the site up and
publish http. I just tried to pull the site up by key in my website name. I
went back and and republished using http and now everthing is fine. I want
to thank you so much for your help and patience. I'm just getting back to
you after some sleep. My brain cells needed recouperating after all of the
frustration.

You're welcome...and YEA !!

Next project is for you to get rid of; wordart, autoshapes, textboxes, and
anything else created from FP's Draw tools.

Go celebrate and recuperate first :)
