9800 Pro AIW Question

I just installed a 9800 Pro AIW in order to capture some home movies.
The card came with the 8.5 drivers CD.
Installation was easy and painless as my previous card was a 8500LE
and I removed the original drivers first.
TV recording is fine, with the audio being a little lower, but not by
much.
Using the composite/audio input is the problem area for me.
The audio recorded is much to loud and distorts (clips) at various
points in the program material.
None of the Windows audio controls seem to control the line-in,
including under the advanced controls in Control Panel.
The slider moves, but no level control.
Mute works however.
Equipment is:
P4 2.4 Northwood Comp.
512mb ram
SB-Live Value

Suggest you upgrade to MMC 9.06 or 9.06.1 - the later versions are
claimed to be buggy. I am using AIW ATI 9800 pro and 9.06 works just
fine.
