Have a C and D drive. Win 98 is on the C, but not enough
room availalble to upgrade to XP so husband said "put it
on the D". Now have choice at startup, but would like to
remove 98 from C to obtain room. Tried add/delete
programs, but no 98 visible. Tried putting in 98 CD and
clicked the remove, but again...no 98 uninstall
available. I'm not comfortable just deleting Windows
files on C drive... any help or suggestions would be
appreciated! Thanks in advance -- SME

Are you wanting to have a dual OS system?

If so I am not sure how to do it exactly as I have a
widow/linux machine.

If you want to just upgrade to XP then you must have XP
on your C drive. I would recommend saving all files that
you want to keep on a CD/floppy or your D drive IF it is
a physically different drive then your C drive.
Supposedly, XP runs better in one partition unlike 98.

Don't just install XP over 98. It will allow you to do it
and from my experience, that causes problems. Start over
with a clean install, which is why I said to make a copy
of all the files you want to keep. Then run the windows
xp disk and format every partition on your master drive
to one huge partition. Then install XP.

Hope that helps a little

The easiest thing to do is to edit the Boot.ini files - which you can do
in XP at Control Panel - System - Advanced, and at the bottom in Startup
and Error recovery, click Settings and then Edit

In that delete the two lines - one in each section - that refer to
Win98.

NOw you will only have XP available at boot (check this is OK), still on
D:, and can delete anything - such as the Windows and Program Files
folders - from C:. making sure you retain these hidden files
C:\ntldr C:\boot.ini C:\ntdetect.com that are needed for booting

And use the released space for data etc - or a a place you could point
programs to when installing in XP
