Easiest - turn off the NLA requirement on the Vista machine.

"Allow connections from computers running any version of Remote
Desktop (less secure.)"
Thank you for your response.

"Allow connections from computers running any version of Remote
Desktop"

Was selected.

I continue the quest.

I would cycle the setting. Turn it off, apply, turn it on, apply, reboot.

Otherwise - some questions/inferred suggestions:

- Windows Firewall (or other) allowing the connection (port 3389 open)?
- Ports properly forwarded (if any routers involved and connecting from
outside the LAN) on router?
- Using the proper external IP address (if any routers involved and
connecting from outside the LAN)?
- Using the latest client available for Windows 98?

- Ensure your setting are all correct:

- User(s) you attempt to use are in the "Remote Desktop Users" group and
have passwords?

You might install the TeamViewer Host on the Vista machine and use it
instead. Or UltraVNC. Or something like that.
