98 clients and win2k shares

P

Paul Edwards

I have a win2k AD network.

I have a windows 98 client on 192.168.1.x network and a fileserver on 6.x
network. I have shares on the fileserver on the 192.168.6.x network with
correct permissions set. The 98 client can't map the share. I can ping the
192.168.6.x server via ip and hostname without a problem.

The XP clients on the 192.168.1.x network can map the share fine. Only the
98 clients on the 192.168.1.x network can map the shares on the 192.168.6.x
network.

DNS seems to be working OK and I have WINS running.

Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks

Paul Ed

- Start a DOS prompt on the Win9x machine.
- Type this command:
net use x: \\YourServer\YourShare
What message do you get?

I'm not in front of the machine now but it basically give me a network path
not found error.
The path is correct because it work OK on XP clients.

Thanks

You network path may well exist but if your Win9x
client is incorrectly configured then it will never
find the server. In your next reply, post also the
contents of c:\test.txt from your WinXP PC and
from your Win9x PC:

ipconfig /all > c:\test.txt
