I have 2 hard disks and have 98 installed on one. I get xp installed on the
other and it shuts down installation and gives me an error message. I have a
promise controller. Is this my problem? How do I get xp to complete
installation. The dual boot ini file is there because it asks @ set up which
os to use??????

Err msg might help.
If this sys came installed with w98, perhaps the hw doesnt support winxp

Hi Thanks for responding. I get all the way to installing windows xp and
it gives me the message to check and see if hard drives are configured
correctly and to remove any new controllers and hard drives. I have a drive
on a promise controller and the other is direct. I'm not a
technician(obviously) and can't get past that screen. I tried different
jumper settings. When my computer boots it finds and names the D: drive but
my C: drive is listed as none...if I remove the controller do I lose the
drive info?? and have to reformat and all that ???? It's making me crazy.

Controller? what controler, is this a sata drive or a simple pci card?
Sounds like you need to use the F6 option during the install of winxp, to
install external drivers from floppy (Promise controler driver)
