Hard drive manufacturers call 1,000,000,000 a Gigabyte
(because it makes the drive sound bigger)
Almost all programs use 1,073,741,827 (1024*1024*1024)
So, an 80Gb drive is "really" 74.5 Gb according to Windows.
Also, partition tables, file tables, directories, and various hidden overhead
(recycle bin, system restore info...) take up some space.
|I have just bought a freecom 80gig external hd but when I check to see how
|much space is on it it says 76gig why is this? There are no files on it yet
