7200 vs. 9200

Hi,

I have an original ATI Radeon 64meg VIVO (7200 chipset).

Its getting on abit now and I want to upgrade to something faster with a
Video input (preferably S-video in).

I've seen a Hightech ATi Radeon 9200 128meg VIVO card for £61 on Ebuyer.
Will this be a worthwhile improvement on the 7200? I don't want spend loads
as I normally use my Xbox for gaming but I'd like a better card for capture
now too.

PC Spec:

15" TFT monitor (max res. 1024*768)
1.8ghz P4
512meg PC133 Ram
80gig 7200rpm HD
Terratec DMX6fire 24/96 s/card
Win XP Pro

Thanks,

Damian

The 9200 is a bad gaming card, slower than the 8500. The 9100 is similar to
the 8500, ok but dated now.

Hi Damo,

I have a 9200 128Mb VIVO. I simply cannot find a way to stop it dropping
~30% of frames during S-Video capture and I just don't bother trying any
more. Perhaps the ATI drivers don't handle PAL properly (I'm in Oz). I
have a P4 2.4 with 1Gb RAM and fast SCSI disks. With firewire DV capture I
haven't had a single dropped frame in capturing ~30 1 hour tapes. I don't
have any games on my machine, but the 9200's performance isn't impressive
for full resolution DV playback so I reckon Mike P is probably right in his
poor opinion of it for gaming.
