7016: mDNSResponder ZeroConf? Huh???

R

Rafi Hecht

Every time the services load up, the following error appears in the
System logs:

Error 7016 "The mDNSResponder ZeroConf service service has reported an
invalid current state 0."

In looking at the Services console, I noticed that there was in fact a
service called "mDNSResponder ZeroConf." I saw that the setting was to
"Automatic," and that it was somehow stopped. I double-clicked on it to
change all recovery failure options to "restart the service." I then
pressed "start" to start the service. The service started for maybe a
few seconds, and then stopped abruptly. I did this a few times with the
same result. When I checked back into the event viewer, I noticed that
each time I started the service generated a new 7016 error. How can I
have this service started without it stopping on me like that?

Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
Rafi Hecht

Do you want mDNSResponder ZeroConf service loading? Do you know what
it's for and do you actually need it?

That's not the point. It's a process that is designed to start during
startup.

In any case, now that you brought it up, what does it exactly do?

It is the whole point. What is the point of it? It is not a Windows
process. Do you have an iPod? Did you try iTunes? My information
tells me it's from Macintosh. What does your's say? Windows 2000 can
start and run with as little as 6 or 8 startup services or processes so
why would mDNSResponder be one of them?

Try this to see part of what's going on when you boot your Windows 2000:
