I've not had any issues. You'll need to update any security software
though but apart from that, there should be no issues at all.

No. For example, the Evoluent vertical mouse driver I use under 32 bit
XP Pro is unusable in 64 bit Vista. AND there is no 64 bit equivalent.

Some 32 bit applications will run under Vista X64. (I believe that most
will.) Some will not. (I had to update to Photoshop CS3. CS2 didn't run
quite right, and Adobe does not support it under Vista. Your mileage may
vary.) You'll have to check with the makers of all of your software,
individually, to determine that.

No 32 bit *drivers* will run. If you are considering moving to Vista X64,
make sure that 64 bit drivers exist for all of your hardware. Some vendors
have not bothered to produce Vista drivers for older hardware. The same
thing happened in the transition to XP from Win98.

There are more examples here.

Why do you ask, AlicGinnis?
So that's a driver and not actually really software per se.

A hardware driver is actually really software. It might not be as
important for this discussion if the user were buying hardware to work
with an application, but that's not the case. Her applications work
fine under Windows XP.

The question is whether someone needs to use 4 GB or more of RAM.

Anybody can use Performance Monitor to find out.

NeXT wasn't.

Uh, yeah.
The question is whether someone needs to use 4 GB or more of RAM.

That's a good question. I analyzed my own usage (web browsing and World
of Warcraft) and decided in my case that the answer was no.

I am currently running 32 bit XP Pro with 2 G of RAM, and it meets and
exceeds all of my actual needs.

Do you claim to have run 32 bit drivers under 64 bit Vista? The only thing I
see from you *in this thread* is a complaint that a 32 bit "Evoluent
vertical mouse driver" won't work under X64.

Only drivers need to be 64-bit. Applications and games can be 32-bit.
