64-bit Vista

I'm planning on installing Vista on a new machine I'm building with an
AMD dual core 64 bit
processor. I believe I read somewhere that any version of Vista can be
upgraded to the corresponding
64 bit version. Is that true? If so, how would one go about that?

TIA

No, it's not. In fact, *no* version of 32-bit Vista can be upgraded to
the 64-bit version. Although you can use an Upgrade product key, you
have to do a clean installation of the 64-bit version, and then
reinstall all your programs and reload your data files from backups
you had previously created.
